Mists of Pandaria Restoration Pre-Raid Gear List

Welcome to the Mists of Pandaria Level 90 Pre-Raid Gear List for Resto Druids!

This list is intended to inform Resto Druids on what leather caster gear is available from quests, factions, BoE items, crafted items, Justice and Valor points, both normal and heroic (H) dungeons and "Raid Finder" (RF) raids. It is designed to help at each stage of the gearing-up process.  It contains more items than most other lists around but I feel it helps to have all the information available to make comparisons easier.

If you're looking for Balance gear you can use this list, but the Pre-Raid Gear for Moonkins list includes hit items.

I recommend using an in-game comparison addon like RatingBuster to help you make quick decisions on upgrades as you level, as well as using gear lists such as this one to plan your gear upgrades.

Scores

To give a general idea on which items might be better than others, each item has been assigned a score based on a weighting for each stat. Intellect is still our most important stat, but I've also weighted Spirit (since we'll need all the mana regeneration help we can get when starting to raid) and also Haste.

The formula used was:
Score = int (+ spellpower for weapons) + gem value + haste + spirit + mastery*0.8 + crit*0.8

Gems

Unlike previous expansions, socket bonuses in Mists gear is usually desirable. For that reason I've added in the following values for types of gem to fill socket bonus requirements. You may choose to use Brilliant only for more healing throughput - that's up to you.
Don't forget you can always reforge items to make stats more desirable, so the scores have a certain amount of buffering around them.

A note on items included in the list

A note on Timeless Isle drops (ilevel 496): In patch 5.4, the Timeless Isle was introduced. After dinging level 90, you can get to the Timeless Isle straight away for the first time via a quest from the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. This is a one-time port so make sure you pick up the flight point when you arrive. You can run around the island, looking under trees and in various nooks for lootable chests. These chests can contain Bind-on-Account Timeless armor tokens that can be converted to 496 level items suitable for your current spec. This is now the most efficient way to gear up to Throne of Thunder RF level quickly!

These items may not necessarily be better in terms of stats than tier 14 raid loot (~level 483 in raid finder), but will be much easier to get a hold of. For that reason I've added them to the lists just above the tier 14 items. There are several flavours of Fire-Chanter items with slightly different stats so I'll just add a general link. More information on the Fire-Chanter items here.

I've left the lower level items in the lists for comparison's sake, but for the purposes of gearing up, it's really not worth doing heroic 5-mans or completing the quest chains in Dread Wastes unless you really want to.

You can also use Burden of Eternity to upgrade a Timeless armor token to a level 535 item. These are obtainable from rare mobs and lootable from Master Kukuru's chests (key is 500 Timeless coins), and must be applied to a token.

Armor items for reputation vendors are now purchased with Valor or Justice points. Valor Points are available from daily random heroics and raids. Tier set tokens will not be available with Valor Points but will be purchased with tokens which will drop in raids.

I've included items from World Bosses. If the bosses are up, raid groups usually form via trade chat.

Items marked as only Bind on Equip (BoE) are usually random drops anywhere in the level 85+ zones, sometimes raids. It's usually faster to purchase them from the Auction House than it is to farm them!

Items marked as "Rare drop" drop from Rare creatures in the 85+ zones. An addon such as SilverDragon may help in locating them.

Items with question marks do not have source information populated in WowHead or WowDB yet.

Upgradable items

In patch 5.1, some items were made upgradeable. You can use 1500 Justice points to upgrade JP gear and Heroic dungeon gear, 750 Valor points to upgrade BoE items, Raid items and Crafted items and similar amounts of Honor/Conquest points for PvP items. There is an NPC in each faction area of the Vale to upgrade items for you. (source wowhead.com)

Upgrading an item adds several item levels to the gear, increasing the stats. It's not always obvious what the upgrade will be, so I've tried to include the upgraded versions in the list below for comparison. The rankings are still based on the non-upgraded items, at least for now.

Most item data was compiled from WowHead, some from WowDB. Raid and dungeon info is from Wowpedia.org.
